Another reason to never use MS again

Vista Network

Vista Network

Is it me just me or is Microsoft doing worse every single year? I haven’t seen or touched a Microsoft based OS for the last 18 months and the first one I get involved is amazingly not surprising me. The weakness of memory allocation emerged on day 3 and as I was wondering around the OS during the first day I accidentally ran into this mess. Why should there be 6 controls and 2 different security modes for a single network connection. Please do not mix this with wi-fi, this is a single ethernet connection.

It just makes me laugh, but also I feel sorry. Let me explain:

  • If Microsoft was good enough to become the biggest OS provider of all times how did it end up way down on the evolution line of OS software?
  • If it was not good enough all the way since the beginning how did it become the leader for such a long time period?

Well the answer is simple. It was never good enough, but it was the only one that was cheap and was in the hands of a 18 year old boy which had no idea about marketing, sales and legal procedures, but at least he was careful enough to not loose his masterpiece.

Secondly, Apple was generous enough to fire Steve Jobs because he was too much of a visionary. Unfourtunately this turned out to be the best thing for Apple because a few years later Steve Jobs had the best and cheapest OS and Apple needed it. In the mean time Microsoft and its OS became the dominant leader of the OS market

Just a little competition was enough for Microsoft to completely go insane in trying to build the best and eventually ending up with this mess. I’m keeping my expectations even lower for Windows 7 after Steve Ballmer explained it was built on the core of Vista. And when the 15 minute preview of W7 became a showcase for the new super-fun live messenger running on W7 I was certain I should just start praying for giving us NextStep.

Here’s how you can add emoji’s to your iPhone without jailbreaking it. I did this while I was on firmware 2.2 and after that for a few days the app was removed from the App Store.

iTunes in da club

February 7th, 2009

iTunes finally acknowledges dance as a standalone genre and they didn’t stop there. Electronic genre was always a very wide variety of music. It combines so many genres, 80’s disco is even in it. So as a rational move they created the dance genre. They also divided it into “mini-genre”s like “In Da Pop Club” (mostly house remixes of pop songs), “Dance Floor Anthems”, “Hey DJ”, “The Future Sounds Of Breaks”. They’ve also included a Top Ten list for songs and albums.

There are two positives to this new classification:

  1. iTunes recognizes the difference between electronic music and house music. Yes house music is a part of electronic, but its outgrowing it day after day.
  2. As a DJ, I can finally get to house music albums and titles easier!

Maintenance

The web is a very interesting place. Servers promising 99.9% up time, unlimited access, etc. However the proud facebook is descending in up time. For me every 2-3 days I get a warning that my account is “temporarily unavailable”. And if it happens while I’m online funny things become regular things.

Shazam

Shazam

Shazam is the best app currently developed for the iPhone for me. You want to find out the name of that song you’ve been hearing for a while then Shazam is the answer for you. Just hold your iPhone to the music and just in seconds you get the artist, song name and album title with the album cover. Its stored automatically as tags and you can review them anytime you want. Every tag also contains iTunes and Youtube links
